I came back from a ski trip one and a half weeks ago. Things are happening fast now. On Monday the 7th, I took delivery of my new travel trailer. It sat in my driveway last week, as I made some modifications. I moved it to an RV storage facility yesterday. I don’t want my neighbors getting mad at me for breaking homeowners’ association rules.
On Saturday a chapter ended in my life. For the first time in 30 years, I live alone. My son, Zachary moved into his first apartment. He is only a couple of miles away, so I see him often, but that is not the same as having him here every night. A three bedroom house is big when you live in it by yourself. My refrigerator and pantry are mostly empty space.
In August of 2014, I drove Tyler to Boulder, Colorado to start his freshman year at the University of Colorado. It was tough driving away, watching in my rear view mirror as he waved goodbye. I did not realize then that I would never see my boy again. Living independently changes one. The next time we met he was Tyler, the man.
Now Zach has gone too. He will also grow and mature rapidly. He has chosen to not only move out, but create an “instant family”, with his girlfriend Taylor and her 2 children. The responsibility and maturity needed for that, guarantees he will change quickly. And who knew, that my two sons would end up in relationships with young ladies having the same name?
The “Raising Two Sons” chapter was a long one. But, it was a fast read. Most of the time, books start out slowly. They can be a little boring at first, but the further you go, the more you want to read. You reach the middle and then the rest seems to go very quickly as you approach the climax. I am not sure what the next chapter will be called. I am sure something will come to me.
Why is it that our perception of time increases as we get older? You’ve come a long way, Kerry, and your journey continues. I know you will find both exhilaration and contentment.
