What’s Going On?

February 24th, 2022

Last weekend, I experienced something new. I attended my friend Sai’s wedding. It was very interesting. First, there are a lot more colors in an Indian wedding. The bride wears a dress with many bright colors, covered in gold embroidery. The stage was bathed in lavender from spotlights and bordered ceiling to floor with flowers. Baskets covered the stage filled with fruits and I assume spices and grains. The ceremony lasted almost 2 hours. The parents of the bride turn her over to the care and responsibility of the groom and his parents. Of course, most of this is what I was told, as I understood nothing of what was being said. I was honored to be invited and was treated as a member of the family.

Tomorrow, I start my trip to join my friends on Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior. We will ski at Gooseberry Falls on Saturday, followed by a day near Lutsen. Then we turn inland to the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness. All of the lakes are frozen, so there will be no canoes, just cross country skiing. We will be 5 days at Beartrack Lodge. On the return we will stop for 2 days at Lutsen, with perhaps some Telemark skiing and a trip around the “Picnic Loop”, a 20km trail through the forest.

The day after returning home, I have an appointment to take delivery of my new travel trailer. Then there are only 2 steps remaining in my “escape” plan. I need to sell my house and retire from my job. I am counting down the days now.

Stay tuned…
