Winter Adventures

The dead time between autumn and true winter is just about over. By true winter, I refer to that part of the winter season when skiable snow can be found. Often for the southern half of Michigan these days, that means never. But the Upper Peninsula (UP) often receives lake effect snow from Lake Superior.

So, for a first planned trip, I will be heading for the far western end of the UP. There in the Porcupine Mountains and Penokee Range near the border of the UP and Wisconsin, there should be plenty of snow for Nordic skiing. I will meet friends from Minneapolis for 4 days stay near Ironwood. I’ll post results after the New Year.

Later, at the end of February and early March, I will be skiing in the North Shore area of Minnesota. The trip will include skiing near Bearskin Lodge on the Gunflint Trail in the Boundary Waters Wilderness, as well as the village of Lutsen.
