I popped out of the mountains onto the grassy Payette Valley, making a short stay on Cascade Lake, south of McCall, Idaho. McCall is a small tourist town mostly geared toward a marina on Payette Lake. Most people come to run their personal watercraft or boats on the clear waters nestled between mountain ridges. A few are looking for whitewater excitement on the Payette River.
I did none of the above. I took advantage of the laundromat and Albertson’s Grocery. That and I also strolled along the waterfront and main street downtown. I was there pretty early in the morning, so rewarded myself with the breakfast burrito that is famous in the area. I would rate it a 7 out of 10.

Next on the agenda will be a run down the Little Salmon River to Whitebird, Idaho, where it merges with the main Salmon River. There, I will visit a notable historic site, that brings back memories of a period of time I experienced in the 1970s and 80s.
