After leaving Stanley, I found a campsite along the river near the town of Lowman. To me, that town sounds like it should be a location in a Stephen King novel. Maybe Hearts in Atlantis. I think that book had “low men” as part of the story.
There is not much to say about my site along the South Fork of the Payette River. It was in a forested canyon and the river flowed very fast and clear. There was no cell coverage, so I relied on the Starlink satellite dish, which had a good view of the northern sky above the steep ridge. You always seem to find friendly people in campgrounds. I gave Gary the passcode and shared my connection to the internet.
Perhaps this place could be described in a single sentence similar to what one of my favorite authors, Aldo Leopold, might write:
There is no more pleasurable location to sleep than amongst the fragrant Ponderosa Pines and mountain wildflowers along a loud and rushing mountain stream.
